Garland Road Superfund Project
WEST MILTON, OHIO - Soil was
loaded (above) into a grizzly
screen prior to being conveyed to
the Direct Fired Low Temperature
Thermal Desorption Unit.
Landfill soils had a mixture of
solvents. The rotary kiln has
special flighting added to break
up tight clay soils.
Special wet scrubbers on the
exhaust stacks (above) assure
neutralization of hydrochloric
acid vapors from the emissions
using a basic pH water solution.

After removal of the VOC's,
the soils are stockpiled.
Soils in the landfill initially
had lead contamination. The
soils are mixed with compounds
to stabilize the lead (Pb), to
below the standards for TCLP.
